私の好きな本の一つです。サセックス大学で貧困分析を学んでいたとき、本書の編者でもあるアンディー・マケイ教授の講義がありました。計量経済学の手法を使って貧困の原因（Determinants of Poverty）を探る手法を初めて学んだ時の衝撃は忘れられません。

数字が全てではありませんが、貧困削減政策を立案する際に、その人はなぜ貧困なのか原因を探ることは不可欠です。開発援助の実務に携わる中で、本書が試みているような手法を知っておくことができて良かったと感じることは多いです。
